ES Setif and MC Alger will meet for a crunch Algerian derby in Group B of the CAF Champions League, with the match set for Stade 8 Mei 1945 in Setif on Tuesday night, kick-off at 21h00 CAT.

The teams come into the game placed in the lower half of the pool. MC Alger are third on one point after being held 1-1 at home by Morocco’s Difaa El Jadidi in their group opener.

The Algiers-based side had to come from both a goal and a man down to salvage a share of the spoils, with Amir Karaoui cancelling out Amid Ahaddad’s opener for the visitors at Stade du 5-Juillet-1962.

Coach Bernard Casoni was disappointed with his team’s inefficiency in front of goal, but is looking forward to the clash with their fellow Algerian contenders.

“There was a good team in front as well, but given the opportunities I think we could have earned the victory,” said MCA’s coach.

“We must remember where we were too, we can not ask more of the players. At this moment, we have a small lack of efficiency, precipitation too, the desire to do well

“In any case, this is only the first game, it is not a problem, it will travel well. We still have a game in Sétif then it will be for next season.”

Setif, meanwhile, are bottom of the four-team log after suffering a 4-1 hammering away to DR Congo giants TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi.

The Black Eagles, who won the Champions League as recently as 2014, are in need of a big win in this derby to get themselves back on track and ease mounting pressure from their supporters.

“What the team is undergoing is dangerous for its future, some want to destroy the ESS by their actions, it’s true that the team has missed out on its subject against the TP Mazembe, but this is not the time insults and intimidation,” said club president Hassen Hamar.

The other Group B Matchday 2 fixture sees Difaa El Jadidi host Mazembe in Morocco on the same day.
