Wydad stun Sundowns to advance

Wydad Casablanca beat Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 in the 2017 CAF Champions League quarter-final second-leg match at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah on Saturday night.
Morocco’s Wydad advanced to the semi-finals after defeating the South African side 3-2 on penalties following a 1-1 stalemate on aggregate.
Nicknamed the Kings of Titles, Wydad dominated the match from the start and their pressure paid off in the 26th minute.
Mohammed Ounajem’s cross was headed home by Salah Eddine Saidi – making it 1-0 to Wydad much to the delight of the home crowd.
The defending champions tried to push for the equalizing goal, but the Kings of Titles contained them and the score was 1-0 to Wydad at half-time.
Sundowns should have scored a few minutes into the second-half, but their captain Hlompho Kekana missed the target from close range.
The Sundowns midfielder was then denied by Wydad goalkeeper Zouhair Laaroubi from a free-kick which was in a promising area.
The match ended 1-0 in favour of Wydad on the night and a penalty shootout followed as the tie was locked at 1-1 on aggregare.
Sundowns missed tthree spot-kicks and Wydad won 3-2 on penalties – booking a place in the semi-finals where they will take on Algerian side USM Alger.
